Haiti: American Airlines and JetBlue are all set to resume their services to Port-au-Prince next month after a halt of two-month caused due to a major surge in gang violence. The reservations for the flights of both airlines has already begun with the American Airlines beginning services on May 9.
The announcement of resumption of services has provided some hope and a sense of relief to the people who wants to leave the country at this critical time.
Amid the escalating gang violence in Haiti, all commercial flights were suspended in early March 2024. The development took place after armed gangs fired on a plane that was preparing to depart from the capital city.
Sunrise Airways was the first airline to resume its services from Port-au-Prince to the United States on March 25. The airline came with a huge price of $1000 for a one way ticket. Presently, only this airline is operating from Cap- Haïtien.
According to the sources, the one way ticket prices of JetBlue flights from Port-au-Prince to Fort Lauderdale in May will range between $140 to $190.
While American Airlines will offer one-way flights from Port-au-Prince to Miami for a hefty price of around US$3400, on the other hand, travelers from the US to Haiti can look for more reasonably priced tickets with American Airlines.
It is being said that the prices for a one way flight from Miami to Port-au-Prince will range between $125 to $484 with the round trip tickets for flights from Fort Lauderdale or Miami will also have much lower prices.
In addition to this, American Airlines is said to fly every day between Miami and Toussaint Louverture International Airport using a Boeing 737-800, which has a capacity to hold 166 individuals.
Both the airlines will provide the nation with a way out for individuals wanting to leave and a way for supplies to reach the country. It is also yet to be seen whether other US commercial airlines will follow American Airlines and JetBlue’s lead and return to Haiti.
