A local lawmaker in the US state of Kentucky luckily survived a shooting inside his office. Around 1000 local time, police caught the person who shot Craig Greenberg, a candidate for Louisville's next Democratic mayor (1500 GMT). Later, Greenberg tweeted that his crew was safe and that he would send an update as soon as possible. Louisville police have not yet established a motive. According to authorities, the gunfire hit Greenberg's shirt, but the lone shooter did not damage anyone. Several people were seen being led out of the building by police, including Greenberg. At a Monday afternoon press conference, Louisville police chief Erika Shields remarked, "We consider ourselves incredibly fortunate today." Requests for comment from the police and the candidate's office have gone unanswered. The shooting, according to David James, head of the local metro council, was an attempt to kill Greenberg. James did not see the incident but said he spoke with Mr Greenberg's office personnel shortly afterwards. An attorney and entrepreneur by profession, ran for mayor of Louisville to succeed outgoing Mayor Greg Fischer last year. Greenberg unveiled a strategy last month to address policing, crime, and residents' quality of life in the neighbourhood. Over the last two years, the city's homicide totals have shattered records.
