Hen taken into custody for roaming around Pentagon
A chicken was spotted wandering through a guarded area at the Pentagon and taken into custody, according to a local animal rescue organisation.

The wild hen was discovered early Monday morning near the US Department of Defense headquarters, according to reports by the Animal Welfare League of Arlington, Virginia, which posted on social media.

The organisation added, "Apparently, the answer to 'why did the chicken cross the road' is to go to the Pentagon."

One of the league's employees took the chicken into custody, "Our officers were dispatched to her location. Sgt Ballena safely transported her to the shelter, where she will remain until we find her a new home!,"

A spokesman for the organisation, Chelsea Jones, said she couldn't identify the specific place where the chicken was spotted.

"We are not permitted to reveal the exact location where she was discovered. We can only speculate that it happened at a security checkpoint "The Associated Press reported Jones as saying.

It's also unclear how the chicken got to the Pentagon or where she came from. Brown feathers and a crimson comb adorn the hen.

Henny Penny is the new name for the bird. Jones said Henny Penny would be adopted by a staff member who owns a small farm in western Virginia.
