Trinidad and Tobago recorded another case of the more contagious Delta Variant of COVID-19. As per reports, the patient is a non-national who recently travelled to Trinidad from Mexico via Panama.  The Ministry of Health reported that the person was placed in isolation as soon as it was determined that the person tested positive for COVID-19. While, contact tracing, testing and quarantining of contacts were also immediately initiated, in accordance with national quarantine protocols. Authorities said the positive patient would remain in isolation until the enhanced discharge criteria for persons with COVID-19 variants of concern is achieved. Authorities stated the variant might also lead to an increase in cases of COVID-19 in younger age groups and in those who have been previously infected. The Ministry of Health strongly advised all eligible persons to be vaccinated against the virus.  Besides this, one additional case of Delta Variant, Trinidad and Tobago also confirmed 330 cases of coronavirus. As per authorities, over 288 people are hospitalized and getting treated for their illness, while 3,523 are isolating at their personal residences. In the last two days, five coronavirus related deaths were recorded across Trinidad and Tobago.  Since 2020, the authorities in Trinidad and Tobago have carried out 342,465 tests for coronavirus at both public and private facilities.
