Trinidad and Tobago achieved a significant milestone on Friday when it completed the prescribed vaccination regimen of 700,000 COVID-19 vaccines. The government said the doses include Johnson and Johnson and other two-dose vaccines.
The People's National Movement (PNM) said that 50 percent of the local population is now fully vaccinated against the possible harmful effects of COVID-19.
"We are now one step closer to achieving herd immunity and returning to 'some kind of normal' in Trinidad and Tobago," said the PNM.
The government also thanked the team of healthcare professionals who continue to lead the charge in our national battle against COVID-19.
"It is as a result of your commitment and efforts in educating the public, advocating for public health measures, vaccinating the willing and caring for the ill that we have been able to come this far in the past two years," said the government.
The government also wished all the best to the medical professionals, " we press ahead in the coming days and months. Onwards to herd immunity and to victor, We did it! We're half the way there. Now, let's get the rest of the job done."
The government on Friday also updated new COVID-19 guidelines and specified the following changes:
- No time limits on visits to beaches and rivers. Visitors will now be allowed to visit at any time. (All other public health provisions remain in place)
- Safe Zones expanded - Under 12s will be able to access safe Zone facilities once accompanied by vaccinated adults. (Parents and Guardians are, however, encouraged to make their own risk assessment before taking their unvaccinated children into these safe zones.)
