Trinidad and Tobago's Homicide Bureau of Investigations (HBI) of detectives continue to work diligently, solving six murders for the week thus far and bringing murder charges against four persons as a result.
On the heels of solving the murders of Stephanie Calbio, Ako Matthew, Robin Sancho Jr., Alexsia Edwards and Kristoff Salandy, HBI detectives charged a 40-year-old man with the murder of Krishanna Ellen Mohammed overnight.
Jason Romero, a labourer of Mayaro, is expected to appear before a Mayaro Magistrate today to answer the charge.Mohammed, 24, was at her Mayaro home on May 11th, 2022, when she got into a heated altercation with a man known to her. During the incident, she sustained chop wounds about the body and died at the scene. The assailant was subsequently held by officers of the Eastern Divison on that same date.
Investigations were supervised by ASP Douglas, W/Insp. Sylvester, Insps. John, and Ramjag, all of the HBI Region Two Office.
Romero was charged by Sgt. (Ag.) Bennett, also of HBI Region Two, on Thursday May 19th 2022, following advice received from Director of Public Prosecutions, Roger Gaspard SC, on that same date.
Acting Commissioner of Police Mc Donald Jacob, who notes the ongoing successes, says it comes as no surprise to him that homicide detectives were solving murders with such frequency as the training, technology and capacity building initiatives implemented in recent times to improve the homicide detection rate and deliver justice to the families of the victims, were bearing fruit. He urged the officers to continue their hard work while also renewing his call for all citizens to assist the police in their crime-fighting activities.
