Roseau: Dominica high court has again denied bail to the Indian fugitive, Mehul Choksi, for illegally entering the country following his disappearance from Antigua and Barbuda.
According to the media, the Dominica court termed Mehul Choksi as a ‘Flight Risk’ while pronouncing the ruling. He did not have any ties with Dominika and the judicial court cannot impose any conditions which will bar him from leaving the nation.
Antigua News Room stated that Mehul Choksi had approached the High Court after the magistrate had rejected his bail petition. Owner of Gitanjali Jewellers in India, Mehul Choksi is accused of fraudulently embezzling the US $2 billion from India’s second-largest lender Punjab National Bank.
It is said that Choksi was planning to shift its base from Antigua and Barbuda to another neighbouring Caribbean country, Cuba. He was captured by Dominican police on May 25 allegedly disposing off some documents near a beach in Roseau.
