Saint Lucia Police selected 200 individuals for training as COVID Wardens

Castries, Saint Lucia:As the COIVD 19 pandemic is changing its mood day by day, fighting against that The Royal Saint Lucia Police Force (RSLPF) has selected 200 individuals for training as COVID Wardens, beginning next week.

Police officials stated that there was a total of 500 individual aspirants from which we have selected this 200.

Deputy Police Commissioner, Milton Desir, states the final selection followed an interview process, wardens will support the police in assuring that oneself comply by existing COVID-19 protocols.

“You would like that to have new persons getting into the job they will need some briefing, they will need some training in terms of writing reports, writing station diaries, their mode of patrol and so on,” the Deputy Police Commissioner told a press conference on Friday.

He told that during primary training which is expected to last for one week, the wardens would be paired with senior officers on patrol so that newcomers can become familiar with whatever is expected of them.

As per the Desir, when the wardens perform their duties, they will be in the group of police officers.

He also stated that the Officers would take the lead ,officers would supervise them. They will be in different districts so that this would give them the opportunity to deal with COVID issues and the police officers especially, at this Christmas season, will deal with matters of a criminal nature.

However, Desir said this would not limit the regular police officers from also assisting with ensuring people comply with COVID-19 protocols.
