Guyana govt donate books on Mexican history to National Library

The Government of Guyana in collaboration with the Government of Mexico on Friday, handed over books on Mexico's history to the National Library. The books were written in commemoration of Mexico's 200th Independence Anniversary from Spain.

In brief remarks, the Learning Resource Officer within the Ministry of Education, Myra Pierre-Moore, said that the Ministry of Education warmly welcomes the new addition to the country's National Library. She noted that such gestures further the Ministry's vision to provide quality education and eliminate illiteracy.

Pierre-Moore explained that "the National Library has been given a boost in meeting its mandate in providing access to quality resources and promoting a culture of reading."

Chief Librarian of the National Library, Emily King expressed gratitude to the Mexican Embassy for the donation.

She highlighted that in addition to books providing persons with a better understanding of Mexican culture and an introduction to Spanish, it will also create a welcoming environment at the library for persons of Spanish origin.

The books were handed over to the National Library by Charge d' Affaires of the Mexican Embassy, Antonio Cruz Diaz. Present at the simple ceremony were Ambassador Forbes July, Director of International Cooperation, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, representatives of the Mexican Embassy and staff of the National Library.
