Team of Eastern Caribbean Civil Aviation Authority in Dominica to visit airport site

Roseau, Dominica: A team of Eastern Caribbean Civil Aviation Authority (ECCAA) reached Dominica on Friday for discussions surrounding the construction of the International Airport in Wesley. Prime Minister Dr Roosevelt Skerrit welcomed the team from the Eastern Caribbean Civil Aviation Authority (ECCAA). The team, led by Anthony Whittier, Director General of ECCAA, includes Trevor Davis, Communications, Navigation and Surveillance (CNS) Manager; Richard Cox, CNS Inspector and Jaime Calderon, ECCAA Aerodrome Expert.

The ECCAA team is in Dominica for a visit to the International Airport Site in Wesley and for discussions with key local officials engaged in the development of the International airport project. Prime Minister Dr Roosevelt Skerrit stated that Dominica is pleased to collaborate with ECCAA as we forge ahead with plans to construct the international airport. Dominica is constructing its International Airport in Wesley village. The airport is built by Montreal Management Consultants Est. (MMCE). International Airport will connect Dominica to major business hubs globally, with direct flights from the United States, Europe and other parts of the world. The project would cost around 1 billion Eastern Caribbean dollars, and the construction will be done in five phases. The development of this airport is the most highly awaited project in the Dominican, and it is also the most expensive and large-scale project in the country. Furthermore, it will entice foreign visitors and reduce travel time for those who wish to visit Dominica for travel or business. As the construction of the airport started, Prime Minister Dr Roosevelt Skerrit advised farmers to increase their crop production and gear for exporting their products to other countries such as the United States. Around 63 acres of land is already cleared in Wesley.

The government has also started constructing homes in the Joe Burton village to accommodate people displaced due to the construction of the international airport.
