Dominica hosts ceremony to welcome athletes from CARIFTA Games
The sports ministry Dominica hosted a ceremony on Sunday to welcome the returning athletes from the 49th Edition of the CARIFTA games in Jamaica.

The Dominica Ministry of Sports, Culture and Community Development hosted a ceremony on Sunday to welcome the returning athletes from the 49th Edition of the CARIFTA Games in Jamaica. Among these athletes were gold medalist, Under 20 shot put athlete Treneese Hamilton and silver medalist, Under 17 Boys Javelin, Addison James.
The prestigious Caribbean U-20 athletics championship ended in Jamaica on April 18, 2022. Jamaica won 45 gold medals and 92 overall medals in the 49th edition of the games. The Bahamas took second place with four gold medals and 17 medals, while the British Virgin Islands took third place with four gold medals and 11 total medals.
The games were organized after a two-year pause caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. Several celebrities, including Jamaican Olympic superstars Usain Bolt and Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, as well as World Athletics President Sebastian Coe, were in Kingston to watch the event.
After the successful conduct of these games, the next big sports event Caribbean Games of Guadeloupe 2022, will take place from June 29 to July 3. The first edition of these new regional Games will feature 800 participants competing in seven disciplines from 29 countries.
