St Kitts and Nevis: The Sunset Reef Resort, a 5-star boutique resort located in Palmetto Point, proudly activated its Sustainable Energy Storage System. This system is the first of its kind not just in St Kitts and Nevis but the entire region. While announcing the development, Prime Minister Dr Terrance Drew said that by harnessing renewable energy sources such as solar power and storing it efficiently, "We are proud to say that Sunset Reef Resort, already recognized regionally and internationally for its sustainable practices, is now operating at 100% green energy!" The Prime Minister invited all the citizens to join in celebrating this monumental step towards a greener and more sustainable future for St Kitts and Nevis. "Together, let's continue to inspire positive change and protect our planet for generations to come," he outlined.

The resort has taken sustainability and innovative environment practices to new heights on Tuesday when it officially flipped the switch to turn on the first Sustainable Energy Storage System in the Federation that is able to store renewable energy such as solar energy.

Through this energy storage system, Sunset Reef Resort, which is already recognized regionally and internationally for its sustainability practices, is now operating at 100 percent green energy.

The switches to the new plant were turned on by PM Terrance Drew, Minister responsible for Energy Konris Maynard and Owner of Sunset Reef Resort, David Fletcher.

The development was also shared by the Energy Minister Konris Maynard on his official Facebook account. He said that it brought him immense joy to share this groundbreaking achievement.

While appreciating the resort authorities, the Minister said, "By integrating solar power into its operations and leveraging efficient energy storage, Sunset Reef St Kitts exemplifies our vision for a sustainable island state."

He added that the activation of this system marks a major stride towards the commitment to renewable energy and environmental stewardship.

It is to be noted that last month, the resort also secured the prestigious title of Sustainable Hotel of The Year at the Caribbean Journal's Caribbean Travel Awards 2024. The achievement showcased their commitment to eco-friendly practices in the hospitality industry.
