PM Drew informs citizens about status of nationals living in Taiwan following earthquake
St Kitts and Nevis: Prime Minister Dr Terrance Drew took to Facebook on Wednesday to inform the citizens of St Kitts and Nevis regarding the status of fellow nationals living in the Republic of China (Taiwan) after a devastating earthquake of 7.4 magnitude. The earthquake caused 9 deaths and 1000 injuries as the strongest earthquake hit the country in 25 years. PM Drew noted that he reached out to Donya Francis, St Kitts and Nevis’ Ambassador, and he ascertained the status and well-being of the nationals there.

While informing the citizens about their status, the Prime Minister said that it was three in the morning but he had to call the Ambassador to Taiwan and added that he reported that everyone is well.

In addition to this, PM Drew spoke to Ambassador Michael Lin with him reporting that every national of St Kitts and Nevis is in good health.

According to the reports, this earthquake is considered the most powerful in last 25 years. The sources reported that that quake struck Taiwan’s east coast which severely affected infrastructure in the mountainous region of Hualien as well as the capital city Taipei.

The destruction caused landslides and also left some buildings leaning at precarious angles which posed challenges for rescue teams.

Furthermore, PM Terrance Drew expressed his solidarity with the people of Taiwan who have been hurt by this natural disaster. He said that the hearts and prayers of St Kitts and Nevis are with the people of Taiwan at this time and added that as the citizens continue to be safe, everyone must keep them in their prayers and thank god for keeping them safe.

Several other citizens and residents expressed their condolences to the ones affected by this incident.

“Pray for our reps there also in Taiwan and the many students we have over there. I have reached out to a couple students there and they also indicated that they were doing great and in good health. Bless them all,” wrote a user named Stuart Nigel Ver sailles while another said, “Mr. Prime Minister, always at the forefront of serving his people and citizens, may God bless you.”
