PM Skerrit extends his sincerest condolences for Sir James Mitchell

Caribbean: This morning came with a touch of melancholy for the Caribbean. The former Prime Minister of St. Vincent & the Grenadines, Sir James Mitchell, is no more. PM Roosevelt Skerrit stated, "The Government and People of Dominica mourn the passing of Sir James Mitchell, the former Prime Minister of St. Vincent and the Grenadines." "Sir James served as the second Prime Minister of St. Vincent and the Grenadines from 1984 to 2000," PM Skerrit added. PM Skerrit extended his sincerest condolences to Sir James Mitchell's family, the Government and the People of St. Vincent, and the Grenadines. Additionally, Prime Minister Dr Ralph Gonsalves, featuring the address at the CXC Ministerial Summit on Educational Assessment this morning, expressed condolences to the immediate family of Former Prime Minister Sir James Mitchell, who passed away this morning. He stated that Sir James was a man of an extraordinary career, conviction and merit who played an essential role in shaping regional institutions such as the OECS and CARICOM. The Prime Minister instructed the Police to have all national flags flown at half-mast for 3 days and on the day of his respective funeral. New Democratic Party stated, "We are saddened to hear the news that the founder of the New Democratic Party, Sir James Mitchell, has passed away. He was one of the founding-fathers of our country and served as the second PM of St. Vincent and the Grenadines from the year 1984 to 2000 and premier to St. Vincent and the Grenadines from 1972 to 1974. "During his time serving our country, he achieved massive amounts in steering St. Vincent & the Grenadines in the right direction by providing economic balance and improving housing across our native islands. The IMF once said of his economic leadership, "there's much to please and little to fault," NDP added. NDP added, "Sir James is undoubtedly to be credited for various developments in our nation. Sir James was the embodiment of a true statesman and the nation builder."
