St Kitts and Nevis: In a significant development, the Government of St Kitts and Nevis broke ground at the Conaree Playfield to construct a new football stadium. The event marked the beginning of an ambitious project to construct a state-of-the-art facility dedicated to football.

The vibrant ceremony on Wednesday was attended by dignitaries, sports enthusiasts, and members of the community, who came together to mark the journey towards a new era for football in Conaree.

The location will be transformed into a two storey pavilion comprising of bathroom facilities, changing rooms, bleachers, a media center as well as a commentator’s booth and bars.

According to the information, the stadium could also be accessed by the differently ables people living in St Kitts and Nevis. During the ceremony, Minister of Sports, Samal Duggins said that his Ministry anticipate that this new facility once completed would serve as a catalyst to foster greater community spirit across the entire village of Conaree, through sporting and other activities. He outlined that he believes that this stadium will stand as a centrepiece for the Conaree Community and will be a place where everyone can come together and support their football teams and enjoy all other activities collaboratively.

In addition to this, the minister also lauded the community members who gave their opinions and feedback on the project and added that such suggestions helped in informing the pavilion design to meet the interests of the community.

Notably, constructing a new stadium at the Conaree playfield was a pledge made by Prime Minister Dr Terrance Drew back in 2022 and he is fulfilling his promises which will ultimately benefit the citizens of St Kitts and Nevis. The Prime Minister noted that football runs deep throughout the community of Conaree, with its football club being a regular fixture in the St Kitt Nevis Football Association’s top-tier football league for several years.

PM Drew also lauded the community-based teams for their efforts to positively engage young people from the area and steer them away from antisocial things.
