The Explorer of the Seas boasts a passenger capacity of 4290 while the Celebrity Ascent can hold 3260 passengers at one time.As the huge number of passengers arrived on the island, the destination witnessed a remarkable surge in cruise activity which pushed the tourism industry forward with limitless progress.
The arrival of these luxury cruises to the island also gives a significant boost to the local economy with vendors getting a chance to serve their goods and services to the international tourists who explore everything local during their short stay.Some passengers also engaged in organised tours, which gave huge business to tour guides and taxi drivers. During this season, St. Kitts also welcomed the largest cruise ship in the world, the 248,663 gross tonnage (GT) Icon of the Seas twice. The visit of this huge vessel marked a significant milestone for the island with St Kitts being its first stop on its maiden Caribbean voyage.The occasion not only demonstrated St Kitts and Nevis as a premier destination for cruise industry but also highlights the significant contributions that cruise tourism makes to the destination’s thriving economy.
