The Prime Minister of Grenada, Dickon Mitchell, attended the opening ceremony of the prestigious Caribbean Tourism Organisation's 2024 Sustainable Tourism Conference.
He was accompanied by the Minister of Tourism, Adrian Thomas, Minister of Economic Development, Lennox Andrews and President of the Senate, Dessima Williams.
PM Mitchell said that this significant conference underscores the CTO's commitment to advancing sustainable tourism practices and policies throughout the Caribbean region. It focuses on the 5 Ps for a legacy of Caribbean Tourism Sustainability: People, Planet, Prosperity, Purpose, and Partnership.
While addressing the attendees during the conference, PM Dickon Mitchell highlighted the significance of inclusivity and urged the involvement of farmers, fishers, agro-processors, and others in conservation to truly achieve sustainable tourism.
Additionally, keynote speaker Adam Stewart echoed these sentiments and stressed the significance of developing public-private partnerships while working together harmoniously.
He highlighted that embracing the Caribbean heritage is crucial for unlocking the potential of our people.
The 2024 Sustainable Tourism Conference is being held in Grenada and was opened on Sunday aligning with the World Earth Day.
The pre conference activities began with the host country media breakfast at the newly opened Six Senses. The Secretary- General, Dona Regis-Prosper, addressed the media along with Adrian Thomas, Grenada's Minister of Tourism, Creative Economy & Culture; Petra Roach, CEO of the Grenada Tourism Authority; Thomas Fehlbier, General Manager of Six Senses; and Nikoyan Roberts, Sales and Marketing Manager of the Grenada Tourism Authority.
Students from St. George's University also delivered a thoughtful presentation on sustainable tourism in Grenada during the event.
Adam Stewart, Executive Chairman of Sandals Resorts International and a renowned leader in sustainable tourism delivered the keynote address on April 22. His remarks inspired a series of productive discussions on building a resilient and responsible tourism infrastructure in the region.
The conference will continue till tomorrow and will feature discussions on several topics of common interest. It features an impressive roster of speakers sharing their expertise on sustainable tourism development.
