St Kitts and Nevis Tourism Minister Lindsay Grant has announced a new daily flight service from Miami, adding it is "incumbent" on him to ensure the federation connects with the best airlines.
The flights will head into the Robert L Bradshaw airport.
"American Airlines will now provide twice daily non-stop service to St. Kitts from Miami for the first time in our history, for five days a week up from four," he told a press conference.
"Additionally, the flight will operate inbound Wednesday to Sunday and outbound Thursday to Monday starting 1 December, with the first Wednesday operation taking place on 6 December.”
The new flight "compliments the new Delta Airlines non-stop weekly service from JFK and an additional service from Atlanta, as well as of our recently-added United [Airlines] stop out of Newark New Jersey", he added.
New Park Hyatt to 'raise the bar'
WIC News has spoken to American Airlines about the flights they operate to the country.
“On January 1st American will be celebrating its 20-year anniversary in St. Kitts, a favourite Caribbean destination for our customers around the globe," they said.
"From St. Kitts we are currently operating up to two daily non-stop flights to Miami and one weekly non-stop flight to JFK, playing an important role in our Caribbean network of almost 1,000 weekly flights to 37 destinations.
"We are proud of our rich history in St. Kitts and we look forward to celebrating our milestone anniversary in 2018.”
Grant added that the new flights will add to a hotel offering that now includes the Park Hyatt St Kitts Christophe Harbour.
“For my part as the minister of tourism, it will be incumbent upon me that I deliver for you the type and the quality of airlines coming into St Kitts, and the frequency that will compliment what you have here to offer,” said Minister Grant.
“I have seen and I believe that this hotel is going to raise the level and the bar of our workforce because you are going to bring the type of delivery of service to the customers that we have been pushing for years.
"If we are speaking about high-end hotel then we have to deliver first class experience to our visitors and our customers. And so, this must not only be at the hotel, but it must transcend throughout every facet of the society."
