Nevisian Harry Yearwood docks Jewel of the Seas in St Kitts

St Kitts and Nevis: Nevis-based Chief Officer Harry Yearwood docked the Jewel of the Seas at Port Zante in Basseterre, St Kitts. The luxurious vessel arrived on April 2 on its maiden call to the island nation, with Yearwood docking it as the Chief Officer for the Royal Caribbean Group and third in command of the ship. The officer described it as his most memorable experience to date and said that his ultimate goal is to dock at Port Zante as the Captain of any of the Royal Caribbean cruise ships one day. He also said that it was his first time docking at his home country’s Port Zante.

Harry Yearwood is the son of Alastair and Clare, who was born and brought up in the village of Westbury on Nevis. When he was young, he went to the Maude Crosse Preparatory School and then later joined the Lynn Jeffers High School.

After completing his studies at school, Yearwood attended the first STCW - Standards of Training, Certification, and Watchkeeping 95 certification course which was established by the Department of Maritime Affairs and looked upon by Chief Port Pilot, Captain Ludell Harvey-Lloyd.

Since the beginning of his career as a pilot, he has worked for 13 years for Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines on several cruises, including the Adventure of the Seas, Majesty of the Seas, Quantum of the Seas, Radiance of the Seas and Wonder of the Seas. He moved his way up through the officer ranks to his current position of Chief Officer (3rd in command) on the majestic vessel Jewel of the Seas.

As the cruise arrived on its maiden call to Port Zante, St Kitts, it was indeed a proud moment for tourism officials who were present to extend a warm welcome to one of their own, Harry Yearwood and other crew members of the Jewel of the Seas on April 2.
