St Lucia: After guiding the St Lucia Labour Party (SLP) to a thumping victory in the General Elections 2021, Political Leader of the Party, Philip Joseph Pierre will take oath as the Prime Minister of St Lucia today, on 28 July 2021 at 4 PM.
St Lucia Labour Party on Monday clinched a massive victory in the elections, winning 13 out of 17 parliamentary constituencies in the country. The leadership of Philip J Pierre trounced the United Workers Party (UWP) in the polls. In his manifesto statement, the political leader had said that St Lucia has gone through a very trying time of mismanagement under a UWP administration. He had promised to rescue the country from an economic as well as financial disaster which was an outcome of the COVID-19 crisis and its management.“The only path to restoring our country to economic and financial stability is to grow the economy by facilitating job creation in the private sector, placing money more in the hands of workers and strengthening the capacity of the revenue collection agencies of the government,” Pierre added.
“Labour government will adopt and governed by the principles of inclusiveness, equity, and meritocracy, in addition to the general principles of good governance the rebuilding of our nation. We will need to energise and creativity of all our people, especially the youth, if we are to be a strong and resilient nation.”
Under the slogan of “Putting You First” St Lucia Labour Party promised to re-energize the country with new and emerging economic sectors, improved fiscal and economic strategies, providing new opportunities to the youth, boost tourism and other promises.People of St Lucia displayed faith in the promises of Labour and it would be seen in the future that how they stand on the expectations of the people. “By the end of a labour government’s first term in office, the proposals in this manifesto intended to create a recognisable better place for people to live, work and recreate. Our health system will have improved, significantly and we will have rebuilt our country from the bottom up, giving every citizen a chance to participate in the development of their country,” concludes St Lucia Labour Party in its promises before forming the government.
