The Port Authority of Montserrat (MPA) stated that they would make another attempt to remove a 60-foot yacht stuck on the eastern shore of the island.
MPA manager Joseph O'Garro stated that earlier this week, the port enlisted the help of a tugboat (Tug Istria) from Antigua to remove the vessel stranded in the Tar River area for more than a week.
Manager O'Garro added that the recovery effort was dropped after three attempts on Tuesday because there were inadequate resources available at the time, joined with hostile sea situations.
The Royal Montserrat Police Service stated that the vessel named 'Good Luck' sailed aground on Thursday 13 May at around 08:30. However, the authorities are not currently known to the captain or crew.
Manager O'Garro noted that the vessel owner has one year to file a claim, after which the port will have the power to dispose of it in a manner he deems fit to cover the cost of the repair of the wreck.
The port manager added that in case of a successful restoration the yacht will be moored at Port Little Bay until the owner claims it.
However, O'Garro says that the priority is to recover the yacht as quickly as possible. He said that a new attempt would soon be made to keep the vessel afloat, apparently in good condition, even if it is stranded.
MPA Manager O'Garro showed his gratitude to the manager of the Antigua Port Authority, Darwin Telemaque for providing assistance
He also thanked the combined team members - Montserrat Port Authority, Customs and The Royal Montserrat Defense Force and the Disaster Management Coordination Agency DMCA.
