Govt urges Jamaica nationals in Ukraine to ensure travel arrangements quickly

Amid the ongoing tussle between Russia and Ukraine, several nations have already issued advisories to encourage their citizens to evacuate as the tensions among these two nations intensifies.
Meanwhile, Minister of Foreign Affairs Johnson Smith advised Jamaican students currently residing in Ukraine to check on flight availability and ensure their Jamaican travelling documents are in order.
She said, "Our Embassy in Berlin will always remain available for consultations on individual emergency needs and concerns."
As per the statement released by the minister, students are more concerned about their studies as the semester re-started on Monday, February 7.She has added, "We are continuously trying to enquire as to the provisions that the universities may have made for students who may need to leave due to the circumstances that are beyond their control."
Minister of Foreign Affairs Johnson Smith has added that the university at which the majority of the Jamaican students are studying reported that there is a calm continuation of education, but as the ongoing circumstances are changing, the students will be notified in case of any adjustments in the timetable and modality of study.
In her statement, the Minister of Foreign Affairs has noted that most of the nations have already issued advisories while encouraging their nationals working, studying in Ukraine either by commercial or private means to leave the nation before the further escalation of tensions between the two countries.
At the same time, Minister of Foreign Affairs Johnson Smith has added that the government of Jamaica is already in continuous touch with its partners to ensure it has the clearest information and is aware of the continuously changing circumstances across the nation.Latest
