Dominica: PM Roosevelt Skerrit ask people to be prepared for 2022 Atlantic Hurricane Season
Prime Minister of Dominica Dr Roosevelt Skerrit advised the general public to be cautious as the 2022 Atlantic Hurricane Season started on 1 June. He shared a long post on his social media accounts, sharing tips on how a person can safeguard themselves and their communities in times of a natural disaster.  He stated that this hurricane season is predicted to be 'above average, and Dominica has been spared the impact of a significant cyclone since the passage of Hurricane Maria in 2017 "As we enter the 2022 Atlantic Hurricane Season, I urge you to intensify preparations to protect yourselves and your families and take precautionary measures to safeguard your homes, businesses, farms, livestock and other belongings," wrote the Prime Minister.

Prime Minister Skerrit advised people should not let down their guard as the Hurricane Season is already here. He also urged people to assist the vulnerable in times of an emergency. "Spare a thought for the most vulnerable in your communities, including the elderly and disabled, and lend a helping hand," stated the Prime Minister. Furthermore, he added that the Government of Dominica continues to build resilient climate infrastructure and develop strategies to strengthen the systems to boost capacity at the individual and community levels to more effectively respond to disaster impacts. He shared the following guidelines for the people of Dominica as they prepare for the 2022 Atlantic Hurricane Season. 
  • Prepare a family emergency and evacuation plan
  • Build an emergency kit with essential supplies, including medicines
  • Organize important documents and confirm coverage with your insurance provider (Take advantage of the income tax deduction for premiums paid on your home insurance up to $8000 for the income year 2022)
  • Secure your homes-install shutters, clean gutters and drains, trim trees and shrubs
