zSt Vincent and the Grenadines: A 75-year-old couple, identified as Jacob and Rachel Sperber, was stabbed to death by their son at their residence in Brooklyn on Saturday evening around 5 PM.
According to the reports earlier on the same day, the neighbours reported some distracted noise from their apartment. After one of the neighbours complained, the Police operated and arrived at the scene to find out the matter.
Upon entering the residence, the Police found the old couple lying in a pool of blood, with some major stabbed injuries on their body, and a 46-year-old man, whose reportedly their son, Meyer Sperber, was also found sitting with around two of them in the mourned state.
The two victims were immediately taken to the Maimonides Medical Centre, where they were later pronounced dead.
Meyer Sperber, who was found barricaded himself in the apartment after the incident, was also taken under Police custody immediately. However, the Police remained outside their apartment, located on 45th Street in Borough Park, on Saturday night for investigation purposes.
Meyer Sperber was also reportedly found barricaded himself in the apartment after the incident. Later, he was seen with visible injuries and was also taken away by emergency medical services.
Meanwhile, in an ongoing investigation by the authorities of the neighbours and witnesses, it was reported that the two couples, Jacob and Rachel Sperber, were very nice and beloved to each other and their only son, Meyer Sperber.
Neighbours and friends stated that the couple was always willing to give and did everything to help their son. Recently, the two of them also took him back from his place to help him fight his mental illnesses.
The motive behind the killings remains unclear, and the investigation is ongoing. The incident has deeply affected the Borough Park community. Some neighbours expressed their disbelief and sorrow over the loss of the Sperbers, who were known for their generosity and kindness.
Several social media users were also seen expressing their sadness upon the incident and the loss of a 75-year-old couple.
A user, Ann Pollack, in the comment section, mentioned, "Why didn’t someone try to help the mentally ill adult son, and no, I am NOT blaming the parents. I am blaming the psychiatrists, therapists and social workers who failed to help him and the nosy neighbours who gossiped about him and, called him “weird” and refused to welcome him into their community. Did the gossiping busybodies ever include this 46 y/o man in holiday celebrations or other social events? No, I didn’t think so."
Another user mentioned, "Stabbing is trending. Too much violence".
