Guyanese swimmer, Andrew Fowler finished fourth at Tokyo Olympics

Swimmer Andrew Fowler of Guyana Caribbean island finished at fourth in Heat One of the - Men's 100m Freestyle in a time of 55.23 seconds.

Guyana: Swimmer Andrew Fowler of Guyana Caribbean island finished at fourth in Heat One of the - Men's 100m Freestyle in a time of 55.23 seconds. With this, Fowler's journey in the Tokyo Olympics come to an end. Guyanese swimmer had the best entry time of - 54.10s in the Heat and was among the swimmers early in the race, but eventually, Andrew faded in the last 25 meters. The 25-year-old swimmer has a reaction time of 0.64s and completed his first 50 meters 26.12s of time. The swimming race was won by Shah Alexander of Nepal, who swam in 53.41s, while Olt Kondirolli of Kosovo swam in 54.33s, and Yazan Al Bawwab of Palestine completed the race in 54.51s.

From the nine heats, only the fastest sixteen swimmers have been able to qualify for the semi-finals. Thomas Ceccon of Italy is having the best qualification time of 47. 71s, whereas Jacob Whittle with 48.44s managed to qualify as the 16th qualifier.

Andrew, along with Aleka Persaud (the youngest olympian at the age of fifteen), qualified on the basis of Universality spots awarded to the sport, and both were in Tokyo prior to the start of the games for preparation camp.

Aleka, who would swim the 50m Freestyle, enters the pool on Friday, 30 July at 6:30 hour ( as per the time of Guyana).

Currently, Persaud is listed for a swim out of - Lane Four. She also has the fastest entry time that is 28.10s, in her Heat. The 25-year-old swimmer - Andrew, is currently also serving in the Guyana Police Force - GPF. The first Guyanese swimmer to represent the nation at Olympics was - Linden's, Onan Thom. He was twenty years old at the time when he represented Guyana at the Olympics. The Caribbean island - Guyana would be represented by seven athletes this year at the Tokyo Olympics. Since 1948, the Caribbean island has competed at a total of seventeen Olympic games, out of which five were under British Guiana.
