Bridgetown, Barbados: Barbados is now the world's first country to have a "Digital Embassy". The government signed an agreement with metaverse platform Decentraland.
It is a historic step as the world moves towards more advanced technology.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade of Barbados signed an agreement on Sunday with Decentraland. It is among the largest and most popular crypto-powered digital worlds to establish a digital embassy.
The "Digital Embassy" of Barbados will be operating in different areas, including purchasing land, providing e-visas, the virtual embassies and consulates, and building a "teleporter" that allows users to transport their avatars between the various worlds.
Barbados has also hired legal counsel, as the embassy will set several unique models. As per the report, the embassy will be obedient to international law and the Vienna Convention.
The government of Barbados stated that their "Digital Embassy" will help the country in Metaverse will expand its diplomatic ties around the world.
The Metaverse is a word used to define a virtual space within digital ecosystems such as online games, social media, and virtual reality. It is a combination of the prefix "meta", expressing beyond, and stem "universe."
Recently, Facebook also renamed its parent company to 'metaverse" since then; the concept has been making a lot of noise. The social-media giant switched its major focus towards augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR).
After Facebook's rebranding in October, Decentraland experienced a surge in its stake. Now, many major names are joining the fray; companies like The Sandbox, Enjin, Illuvium and Axie Infinity are also moving towards 'metaverse'.
Metaverse is expected to be the vision of the future and is expected to change the way people interact with each other. It is taking virtual reality and virtual communications to whole new levels.
