Inspector Evans, stunned at the spontaneous hug, raised her head and saw the little boy's family looking equally amazed as he wrapped his hands tightly around her. She then took the child over to his family to enquire about his distinct behaviour towards her.
The child's mother explained that his name is Yugraj Tekman, six years old, the youngest of her three sons and that they are from Mon Repos, East Coast Demerara.
She went on to say that little Yugraj has always been fearful of Police Officers ever since growing up and would usually run away or hide whenever he saw Police.
Yugraj's mother said she was astonished but happy to see him hugging a Police.
Inspector Evans, who has a passion for children, immediately capitalized on changing the perspective little Yugraj Tekman had on Police Officers. As she held the young boy's hands, she explained to him that the role of policemen and women is to protect and serve him, his family and all the citizens of Guyana as she further told him that if he ever needs to be helped, the Police are always willing and he should never be afraid of any Police.
She also reiterated this information to his brothers and his mother while leaving her contact phone number with them should they ever need her assistance.
Yugraj's mother thanked Inspector Evans for her kind words of inspiration and for opening an optimistic way her son will now react to Police.
