Guyana police charges 3 for stealing hair braids, weaves worth $5 million

The Guyana police have charged three people for the theft of $5 million worth of hair braids and weaves. The accused have been identified as Marlon Campbell, a 29-year-old Seaman; Keron Williams, a 26-year-old Seaman; and Trevon Williams, a 29-year-old Security Officer.

The three accused are all from Annandale South, E.C.D and were arrested on 2022-06-09 and charged with the offence of Break and Enter and Larceny Contrary to Section 229 (a) of the Criminal Law (Offences) Act Chapter 8:01.

The men are accused of breaking into a bond owned by a 38-year of businessman and stealing millions of dollars worth of hair braids and weaves.

The defendants appeared at the Vigilance Magistrate's Court before Magistrate Fabayo Azore, where the charge was read to them, and they pleaded not guilty.

They were all remanded to prison. The matter was adjourned to 2022-06-23. On the day of the incident, the businessman discovered the front door open, the place ransacked, and the above items were missing.

Acting on information, a police raid exercise (with a search warrant) was conducted at Fourth Street Annandale, ECD, where a quantity of the suspected stolen items was recovered, and another raid exercise was conducted at Strathspey Squatting Area at the home of a businesswoman where a quantity of the said items was recovered in a building at the back of her yard worth some $4,840,000.
