MV Celebrity Reflection makes inaugural call to Dominica
The MV Celebrity Reflection made its inaugural call to Dominica on Saturday, bringing hundreds of tourists.
As per the government of Dominica, it is the ninth of the seventeen inaugural cruise calls expected this season by the island. After the resumption of cruise ships, more than 64,000 passengers arrived on the shores of Dominica and helped revive the sector badly impacted by the coronavirus pandemic.
Upon arrival at the Ports of Dominica, members of the MV Celebrity Reflection cruise ship were welcomed by the authorities and presented with "token of appreciation", including the local handmade arts and crafts.[embed]https://twitter.com/SkerritR/status/1480022158965309442[/embed]
Prime Minister of Dominica, Dr Roosevelt Skerrit, appreciated the inaugural call of MV Celebrity Reflection. He said more cruise ships now have Dominica listed in the itineraries, and the country is gaining popularity among visitors.
Denise Charles, Minister for Tourism, International Transport and Maritime Initiatives, said that many livelihoods in Dominica depend on cruise tourism. As per Minister Charles, since the resumption of cruise visits in July 2021, the sector has been performing very well.
She said the government is also aiming to construct a new ferry terminal in Roseau. Besides this, some other significant developments are expected in the tourism sector this year.
