Trinidad: Another shooting incident leaves one dead amid surge in homicides

Trinidad and Tobago: A brutal shooting incident in San Juan left one individual dead and another injured early on Thursday. The police officials said that they identified the deceased as Jammy, while the injured person was said to be Peter O’Brian, aged 27, of Happy Hill, Laventille Road.

According to the information, the incident took place around 12:54 am when PC King, PC Foy, and PC Sanderson, along with WPC Leiba, were on mobile patrol when they got information about several loud explosions near Laventille Road, San Juan.

When the officers arrived at the scene, they met with O’Brian, who was standing along the roadway near Boot Hill and was bleeding from a gunshot wound to the left side of his hip.

The officials also found another lying on the roadway who had several gunshot wounds on his body. They rushed both men to the Mt Hope Hospital, where the unidentified man succumbed to his injuries.

Meanwhile, the crime scene investigators also visited the scene and found 38 9 mm spent shell casings, with the inquiries still continuing.

This was the second murder that took place in the area for the month so far, and just on Monday, June 3, 2024, Christopher Ashby of Bagatelle Road, San Juan, was shot dead near his residence, leaving the residents in a state of shock.

As the series of homicides is on the rise in Trinidad and Tobago, the citizens and residents have expressed their concerns regarding their safety in the country. They are urging the government to take the necessary action and control the crime situation in the country as this could have a bad impact on the tourism product of the island nation.

The island nation has also witnessed travel warning coming from USA and Canada embassies because of the surge in the crime incidents leading to the country becoming unsafe for the tourists as well.
