St. Kitts and Nevis: The oldest political party in the English-speaking Caribbean – the St Kitts and Nevis Labour Party (SKNLP), hosted its 92nd annual conference today. The theme for this year’s conference is “Live, work, prosper: Together.

The theme showcases the unwavering commitment as well as dedication of the administration towards fostering unity and brotherhood among the people of St. Kitts and Nevis by working towards their common goal.

The SKNLP originally started as the Workers’ League in 1932, eight years before the union, which was started in 1940, as it was up to that point illegal to have workers organizations. In other words, the Labour Party predates the union.

The event was graced by Dr Dayton R Campbell of the People’s National Party in Jamaica, who joined as this year’s guest speaker.

In addition to this, Prime Minister Dr. Terrance Drew also invited all comrades to the public session of the conference which began at 9:30 am at Manhattan Gardens, Lime Kiln, Basseterre, St. Kitts.

The event promised to offer a plethora of experiences to all the attendees, and they also got an experience filled with many entertaining activities and a chance to have direct conversations with the leaders.

The event attracted a huge number of citizens and residents who came to celebrate the 92 years of the Labour Party in St Kitts and Nevis. There were real conversations, hearty laughs, and loads of community spirit.

Earlier on May 6, the SKNLP also hosted the Annual Labour Day to celebrate the party’s growth and shared success with the constituents. PM Drew emphasized that workers are the backbone of the Federation and that Labour Day is a day for workers.

He also noted that the Labour movement has led Labour Day since its inception, and though it is led by the Labour Movement, it is for all workers. The SKNLP has always worked towards the enhancement of the nation since its inception and vows to work collectively for the benefit of both the people and the country.
