St Kitts and Nevis: Samal Duggins leads coastal cleanup in Conaree on World Oceans Day

St. Kitts and Nevis: Minister of Sports and Agriculture Samal Duggins led a coastal cleanup in Conaree on the occasion of World Oceans Day on June 8.

He called the day an important occasion to raise global awareness about the incredible benefits that oceans provide and the responsibility to use their resources sustainably.

As Oceans play an important role in sustaining life on Earth, regulating the climate as well as providing valuable resources, the World Oceans Day serves as a stark reminder of the need to protect and conserve the oceans for current and future generations.

The theme of this year’s Oceans Day was ‘Awaken New Depths,’ with Minister Duggins highlighting that this calls on everyone to look for new ways to protect and preserve the marine environment.

The coastal cleanup was also held in honor of this day only, and the Minister was also joined by the dedicated staff from the Department of Marine Resources.

While sharing the glimpses of the cleanup, Duggins outlined that the collective efforts of everyone are important in safeguarding the precious marine ecosystems for future generations. He further called upon everyone to work together and keep the oceans clean and vibrant.

Meanwhile, the authorities of the Department of Marine Resources also took to Facebook to share that together, the difference can be made.

They added, “In honor of World Oceans Day, the Minister responsible for Marine Resources, Honourable Samal Duggins, led a coastal cleanup in Conaree with participants from the Department of Marine Resources. Their efforts are crucial in protecting and preserving our precious marine ecosystems.”

The volunteers got together and worked to clean the beach in Conaree. They picked up the garbage scattered by the visitors and dumped it in those areas specified for it.

This shows their dedication to keeping their community clean, and also, it is a way to motivate others, especially the youth of the country, to engage in such activities, which will keep the country green and clean.
