WIC News understands that a prisoner in St Kitts has suffered stab wounds, just days after a fight left another inmate needing medical help for similar injuries.

Both incidents are thought to be linked to gang rivalries inside the facility.

Questions are being raised about whether officials have lost control of the Her Majesty's Prison, which is located on Cayon Street in the capital, Basseterre.

The latest victim, who has not been named, suffered punctures to his back and was rushed to JN France Hospital yesterday afternoon.

WIC News has reached out for further information regarding his condition.

On Monday afternoon, a male prisoner was also rushed to the medical facility with several stab wounds to his head following an altercation.

One source in the city said that “action must be taken… and strong action, otherwise those in the prison might see this behaviour as acceptable and unpunished.”

Reports from St Kitts state that inmates have had their visitation privileges suspended while an investigation is underway.

The press secretary of Prime Minister Timothy Harris, who is also the federation's minister of national security, has been contacted for comment on this matter.
