PM Keith Rowley announces major reshuffle in Cabinet

Port-au-Spain, Trinidad and Tobago: The government of Trinidad and Tobago have suggested a reshuffle of ministers on Monday. Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley advised President Paul-Mae Weekes to reassign the ministers with immediate effect. Mr Stuart Young has been appointed Minister of Energy and Energy Industries and his duties as Minister in the Office of the Prime Minister.

Fitzgerald Hind has been appointed as the Minister of National Security, while Foster Cummings as Minister of Youth Development and National Service.

Stuart's appointment comes three days after the death of former Minister of Energy and Energy Affairs Franklin Khan.

The reshuffle has been announced in accordance with Sections 3(9), 76(3) and 79(1) of the Constitution of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago. Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley declared that the reassignments are effective immediately imposed.

The reshuffle of the cabinet is also said to be connected with the rising coronavirus cases in the country. Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley, who himself is coronavirus positive, stated on Sunday evening that Trinidad and Tobago is experiencing a rise in hospitalizations due to COVID-19.

The government have also tightened its restrictions as the opposition continue to oppose the decision of imposing stricter measures.
