PM Drew appoints Jahzara as Youth Board Member in advocating awareness against violence
St Kitts and Nevis: Prime Minister Dr Terrance Drew appointed sports phenomenon Jahzara Claxton as the Youth Board Member on the Violence as a Public Health Perspective Committee. Claxton is a professional cricketer and footballer and her passion to serve in every field is lauded by the nation.

As the Youth Board Member, Claxton will be responsible for advocating and spreading awareness of the committee’s objectives through community outreach.

PM Drew said that he felt honoured to make this appointment and added that Jahzara is a remarkable athlete and is famous for being a member of the Barbados Royal Women and West Indies Women U-19 cricket teams.
“I am confident that Jahzara’s involvement will significantly enhance our efforts toward achieving our goals,” outlined the PM.
The Kittitian athlete has also showcased her talents as a forward team member for the Newtown United Football Club and St Kitts and Nevis Women’s national team. She also earned the title as the most decorated Sports Personality for 2023 in the twin island nation. While appointing her as the Board Member, PM Terrance Drew remarked, “As a government and as a nation, having youth like her who excel and are willing to contribute to the betterment of everyone, particularly our youth who may stray from the right path sometimes, is truly commendable.”

He also encouraged Jahzara to leverage her influence to champion the cause of youth empowerment in the Federation.

In addition to this, the Ambassador of Sports in the Federal Government, Kenneth Douglas, also joined the appointment ceremony along with Minister of Sports et al., Samal Duggins, Jahzara’s parents, Ika Francis and Frank Claxton.

Ambassador Douglas said that the A Team government believes in bringing young people at the table as their voice will help to shape the Sustainable Island State Agenda.

Meanwhile, the Sports Minister Samal Duggins appreciated Jahzara and said that this may be another possible new venture for her apart from being a professional cricketer and footballer.
