St. Kitts and Nevis: A 23-year-old Mikyle Louis has created history by becoming the first ever Kittitian to make the West Indies Test Cricket Team. Louis got the nod from Cricket West Indies (CWI) after an outstanding season in which he scored over 700 runs.

The former West Indies Under 19 player will debut for the West Indies and will become the first from his island to wear the famous Maroon test cap.

The Leaders of the Federation are taking to the Facebook and calling him personally for extending their good wishes to them and congratulate him on this significant milestone. Although, he is not the first from the Federation but is the first Kittitian to be included in the West Indies Test Squad Tour of England.

Prime Minister Dr. Terrance Drew, while congratulating him, said that he had just spoken with Mikyle Louis by phone to congratulate him on being the first Kittitian to make the Windies Cricket team.

He added, “We wish you well and much success! Your admission to the team is significant and means a lot to our people. You are a great example for our young people, especially our young men. Congratulations again.”

Minister of Sports, Samal Duggins also congratulated him and expressed his immense pleasure over the development. He said that this historic achievement is a testament tothe cricketer’s hardwork and dedication.

Minister Duggins also added that while Nevis has had six selectees to the West Indies team over the past 50 years, this milestone marks a significant moment for St. Kitts.

Public Infrastructure Minister Konris Maynard outlined, “I had the pleasure of meeting up and speaking with Mikyle last week, and he is super focused on the task ahead. I want to wish him every success, and may this be the start of an incredible and successful Professional Cricket Career.”

Additionally, Deputy Prime Minister Dr Geoffrey Hanley said that he is looking forward to personally congratulate him as a role model for the youth and the community on a whole.

The West Indies team has called up uncapped opening batter Mikyle Louis for their upcoming 3-Test tour of England in July. The 15-men squad, which will be captained by Kraigg Brathwaite and will have Alzarri Joseph as his deputy, also sees Jayden Seales, who missed the last series against Australia with injury. Also back is Jason Holder who had made himself unavailable for the last tour.
