The tropical storm Dorian highly affected the markets in Dominica; shops in the city of Roseau remained partially closed because of the rainy weather conditions.
Prime Minister of Commonwealth of Dominica Dr. Roosevelt Skerrit has encouraged the citizens to remain open even after the warning of the tropical storm. People seemed very alarmed with his advice as the markets remained partially open. The major supermarkets in Roseau along with some other small shops were open even after the heavy rainfall in the morning. The day to day work in the city was unaffected and people were seen walking to the markets.
Tropical Storm Dorian has intensified in the Atlantic Ocean. As per the information by the end of the week, Dorian is expected to move toward the Bahamas and possibly south-eastern parts of the mainland US.
As per the forecast issued by the Meteorological Department of Dominica tropical storm, Dorian continued to move west north-westward away from the island chain, including Dominica.Unstable conditions associated with Dorian are however projected to linger across Dominica during the next 6 to 12 hours. The forecast is for scattered showers and possible isolated thunderstorms during this afternoon into tonight. Preliminary rainfall amounts of near 4 inches or 100mm have been reported over sections of the island. Due to the anticipation for additional shower activity, isolated cases of flash flooding and landslides are therefore possible. A flash flood watch is now in effect until 6 pm this evening.
Moderate to rough seas are expected during the next 6 hours with waves peaking between 7.0 to 10.0 feet. Small craft operators and other sea users are advised to exercise caution. A Small Craft Warning remains in effect until 6 pm Tuesday.
