Man dies after running into lorry while crossing road in Guyana

Guyana: The police officials in Guyana’s regional division 4C have launched an investigation into a report of a fatal accident which took place on Sunday. The accident caused the death of a 48-year-old who allegedly ran into the lorry while crossing the road.
The incident occurred around 7:50 pm on Enmore Public Road East Coast Demerara and involved a motor lorry vehicle with the registration number of GTT 4579 and was being driven by a 37-year-old. The driver was a resident of the Agriculture Road, East Coast Demerara.
The accident also involved a pedestrian named Rooplall Haindarsan, a 48-year-old of Lot 93 Logwood Enmore, East Coast Demerara.
The preliminary inquiries revealed that motor lorry GTT 4579 was moving west along the southern side of Enmore Public Road, East Coast Demerara at a normal speed when it is being reported that the pedestrian ran across the road from north to south into the path of the motor lorry, causing a tragic collision.
The officials reported that because of the collision, the pedestrian fell onto the road surface and sustained several injuries to his body. The passerby informed the Emergency Medical Technicians, who, upon arrival, picked up the pedestrian in an unconscious condition and rushed him to the Georgetown Public Hospital.
Upon arrival, he was seen and examined by a doctor who pronounced him dead. At present, the dead body of the accident victim is lying at the Georgetown Public Hospital Mortuary and is awaiting a post-mortem examination while the vehicle is lodged to be examined with the driver in police custody. The officials said that investigations are still progressing over the recent traffic accident.
Meanwhile, the police officials are also urging the residents and citizens to drive carefully while on the road as Guyana is witnessing an increase in road fatalities with several cases being already reported since the beginning of 2024, forcing authorities to advise residents to be careful while driving.
