Jamaica: Woman who survived earlier attacks shot dead at home

Jamaica: In a shocking incident, a woman was shot dead by unknown assailants at her residence in Helicon district, St Ann, on Sunday. 

The deceased, who is said to be in her 40s, has been identified as laborer Nadia Binns. The investigations revealed that this is not the first time Ms Binns has been attacked.

According to the reports, shortly after 2 pm, Binns entered her one-room dwelling after coming back from church. After a few minutes, her neighbors reportedly heard loud explosions of gunshots. 

The neighbors alerted the police officials, and upon arrival, the officials observed Binns lying in a pool of blood with several gunshot wounds. Binns was immediately rushed to the hospital, where she was pronounced dead. 

The incident has sent shockwaves across the community as, according to some residents there, Binns had earlier survived a machete attack in the area during the month of January this year. 

The police officials said that this makes clear that somebody was behind her for a long time and was attempting to take her life. 

The last attack also took place at her home on January 30 and left her battling for life. She was found in her bedroom with several chop wounds, including to her face, after her attacker entered her room after removing louver blades from a window. 

But at that time, she was saved by doctors while her injuries were still healing when the attackers again came for her, and this time killed her.

Meanwhile, the citizens and residents of Jamaica took to social media to express their condolences to the victim’s family, while some also voiced their concerns over the increasing criminal activity. 

“Each day, when you read the paper or listen to the news, you are left heartbroken by these stories. These criminals are merciless. Lord help Jamaica land we love,” wrote a user named Annastacia, while another user said, “This is getting out of hand in Jamaica, now with this gun crime. Where is the Government, and if there is one, what’s going on that you are not finding out where all those guns are coming from that in the country killing innocent people every single day.”
