In a significant development, Grenada proudly won its 17th gold medal at the Chelsea Flower Show in London. The team won the show with its floral display of the Golden Falls of Grenada.
The team led by Catherine John showcased diverse flora such as orchids, heliconias, ginger, lilies, shampoo gingers, and more.
This achievement is significant as Grenada continues its 50th independence anniversary celebrations and is inspired by the picturesque Golden Falls which is in Saint Andrew, Grenada.
In addition to the gold medal, Grenada’s exhibit also earned the President’s Choice Award in the Great Pavilion category. According to the information, this award is given to the team that displays old-fashioned and contemporary roses set in a garden scene.
It is to be noted that Grenada has participated in the show for around 20 years now, and 2024 marks the 17th consecutive year that the team has won.
A member of the team, John Creswick, stated that the team’s dedication and hard work had paid off and added, “We don’t know the judging results until very, very early on Tuesday morning, which was this morning, and the result was magnified, decent.”
He further noted, “We not only got a gold medal, and this is our 17th gold medal, but we were also given the Royal Horticultural Society President Award. This is only awarded to one display of the whole Chelsea Flower Show in London, and it was awarded to Grenada.”
He called the honor hard to imagine and noted that Grenada was singled out from all the other displays and entrants in the show for this astounding award.
While sharing the development on its official Facebook account, the Grenada Hotel and Tourism Association said, “We did it!!! Congratulations to Team Grenada on winning Gold and the prestigious President’s Award at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show!!! Grenada continues to shine brightly as we celebrate our Golden Jubilee!”
Meanwhile, another Caribbean nation, Barbados, won its 22nd gold medal at the Chelsea Flower Show, making the whole region proud.
