Dominica to roll out Pfizer vaccination campaign from next week

Roseau: Dominica is set to roll out the Pfizer vaccination campaign from next week to inoculate children aged between 12 and 17, said Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit. PM Roosevelt Skerrit during his special weekly show ‘Annou Pale’ said that Dominica has all the vaccines required to inoculate the people who are eligible to take the jab as this week the nature island was able to store 46,500 doses of the Pfizer vaccines delivered by the United States. Prime Minister Skerrit expressed gratitude to the US government, “We are most grateful to the US government for this donation. Which will allow us to roll-out a vaccination campaign for children 12 to 17.” PM urged parents to get their children vaccinated and protect them against the COVID-19 virus. He also emphasizes that government is in no favour of making vaccines mandatory in Dominica and wished speedy recovery to over 600 Dominicans who were as Friday confirmed as active positive cases of coronavirus. "We are in a battle against an invisible enemy that is coming to steal, kill and destroy god’s people." PM added, "The government will lead it, but it cannot do it alone. This requires all leaders to play their part in civil society and the business community must also show leadership." Prime Minister elaborated that Dominica was the first developing country that had enough vaccines to inoculate the whole population against the COVID-19. Moreover, Dominica is rigorously testing people to trace down the active case and one antigen test costs about US $20 and one PCR test costs about US $100. “All of these things are being done free of charge in the country. “We gave frontline workers between $300 to $1000 worth vouchers as a token of our appreciation while were in the frontline. They have a family home, who need to purchase things and they may not be able to go themselves.” Apart from this, PM Skerrit also announced that the government is procuring land to build a multi-story administrative building in Portsmouth, which will accommodate all the needs and public service works under one roof. Interviews will be conducted very soon to fill the positions at secondary schools and there are several committees set-up to interview principals, deputy principals and all other faculty at the school. Schools PM announced that clearly with the current surge of COVID-19, it will be impossible to have students go to school face to face until the situation is under control. The classes will begin fully from September 13 and then in the month of October, all the classes will commence from October 4.” World Creole Festival As Dominica was unable to host World Creole Music Festival in 2020 due to COVID-19 restrictions, this year, the government has set aside $400,000 to host a festival utilizing only local artists. Which means that $400,000 would be provided to the local artists who participate in the music festival. However, with the situation of COVID-19 in the country.
