Dominica police investigate shooting in Portsmouth
Sandwich Street resident killed
The police force in Dominica is working to investigate the shooting dead of a Portsmouth man on New Year’s Day.
Only 11 hours into the new year and the Nature Island record it’s first murder.
The victim has been identified as Derrick Peters.
He was a resident of Sandwich Street.
One man is in custody in connection with the killing.
According to Pelham Jno Baptiste, the public relations office for the police, the victim “sustained a gunshot wound to the back of his neck.”
Peters was official pronounced dead after being taken to the Reginald Fitzgerald Amour Hospital, he added.
“The Commonwealth of Dominica Police Force extends condolences to the family and friends of the deceased.”
