While more details are still emerging out of Port-au-Prince, journalist Michael Deibert revealed on a Twitter communique that confirmed that the President of the Caribbean country Haiti was assassinated by a group of armed men at his private residence.
As per the independent reports, the President was attacked by a group of unidentified individuals, 'some of whom spoke in Spanish'. The incident took place at about 1 am on Wednesday.

“Condemning this odious, inhuman and barbaric act, the Prime Minister, Dr Claude Joseph, and the CSPN called on the population for calm. The security situation in the nation is under the control of the Haitian national police and the Haitian armed forces," the statement read, Ouest France cited.

Associated Press reported that the First Lady of Haiti has been hospitalised. "Haitian President Jovenel Moïse assassinated at home, the first lady hospitalized amid political instability," AP tweeted.
Haiti is one of the most violent countries in the Caribbean; in past few months, incidents of homicides and killings ahs been suddenly spiked, and the president was the main target of many groups.
Moreover, Haiti also faces chronic poverty and recurrent natural disasters.
The president faced steep opposition from swathes of the population that deemed his mandate illegitimate, and he churned by a series of seven prime ministers in four years. Most recently, Joseph was supposed to be replaced this week after only three months in the post.
Additionally, presidential, legislative and local elections, Haiti was due to have a constitutional referendum in September after it was twice postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
