Bahamian Denisha Cartwright ends collegiate career with 2 more national titles

Bahamas: The Minnesota State Mankato legend from the Bahamas, Denisha Cartwright, have added another NCAA DII title to her list of achievements. She won the 100m hurdles title in a time of 12.37 seconds which is the second fastest time in all NCAA levels.

With this achievement, she ended a legendary collegiate career at Minnesota State-Mankato with two more national titles.

According to the information, Cartwright outran the competition by almost a full second to overcome her own fastest time in Division 2 this season. She also won her first 200m national title in a personal best of 22.91 seconds.

It is to be noted that the Bahamian athlete concluded her Mavericks career with 16 outdoor All-American trophies and 5 national titles and has also won 14 indoor All-American trophies as well as three career national titles.

In the heats of the women’s 110-meter hurdles on Friday, Denisha Cartwright clocked a time of 13.01 seconds and came back in the final on Saturday and won the title.

In the 100m, Cartwright ran a personal best time of 11.26 seconds in the heats during the perfect wind conditions for running and returned in the final on Saturday and crossed the finish line in just 11.14 seconds and took home the silver medal.

Meanwhile, in the women’s 4x100m relay, Cartwright and her teammates Rose Cramer, Brewster and Tijuanique Morton finished in the final in a time of 51.89 seconds which was not the result the team was hoping as it ran 44.95 seconds in the heats.

Cartwright is the 2023-2024 NCAA Division 2 Women’s Track National Athlete of the Year as well as the 2023-2024 Women’s Indoor Track Central Region Athlete of the Year.

On the other hand, at the East Regional in Lexington, Kentucky, Bahamian Keyshawn Strachan qualified with a 3rd place finish in the men’s javelin with his throw of 74.63 meter.

The Bahamian athletes are regularly taking the small island’s name to new heights on international platforms.
