Police officials recovered the dead body of a Canadian woman residing in St Lucia on Sunday after reports of a homicide in Gros Islet area. The body has been identified, and officials suspect the homicide have been perpetrated by someone known to her.
The body has been identified as a 34-year-old Nicole Dempster, a Canadian national residing in Saint Lucia for some time now. The woman was living in the Beausejour area.
Police stated that they received information regarding a homicide on Sunday at Beausejour, Gros Islet and found an unresponsive body of the Canadian woman.
As per officials, the medical practitioner was called on the scene to confirm the death.
The matter is currently being thoroughly investigated, and one suspect is under custody so far. Local police in Bexon stated that they had captured a suspect. Sources revealed to the local media that the killer was known to the victim. However, he will not be named until he is formally charged, authorities announced.
The body has been taken in charge by the police officials, and post mortem is awaited. The officials stated the actual cause of death could only be made known after the final reports arrive, so far it is being suspected to be an incident of foul play.
Four murders in 48 hoursIn over 48 hours, around four people were murdered, and she was among them.
A number of Canadians have been killed on the island over the past two decades.
Commissioner Severin Moncherry stated that notwithstanding the events of violence that the country had over the few days, the police remain dedicated to assuring that citizens and foreigners are safe during this festive season,
“It is really sad as we are in a time when people are reckoned to be giving love and sharing love. But, within 48 hours, we would have four killings. It is something that bothers me. It is of concern to me.” added Commissioner Severin Moncherry
