A boat carrying illegal migrants from Afghanistan, Pakistan, Bangladesh sunk in the Lake Van in eastern Turkey. It is believed that at least seven people sunk and died in the incident.

The lake is near the border of Iran and migrants cross that lake so that they can enter the turkey and move toward Europe. “A boat carrying migrants from Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan has sunk in Lake Van in eastern Turkey, with at least seven people dead” officials stated.

Officials said that they rescued at least 60 people and took them to local hospital and migrant camps. It was around 03.00 am when the incident took place. It is still not clear what exactly happened to a boat. Five migrants died on the spot, and two died later in the hospital. Emergency teams, as well as divers, were deployed by the Govt in the rescue operations and it is still not clear that why they were using this route instead of a normal road.

People from Bangladesh, Afganistan and Pakistan have been using a route via turkey to reach Europe illegally. Many, such individuals are escaping because of violence and poverty in their countries. They pay a huge amount to the agents and smugglers to help them to reach Europe. Many such migrants die on their way to Europe.

“Turkey’s security forces have held some 441,532 undocumented migrants on its territory this year” according to state-run Anadolu news agency.

It was in 2016 that Turkey made a financial deal with Europe to allow the flow of migrants to Europe. But the number of such people is increasing every year.
