Venezuela has been assured of unwavering support from Grenada as the South American country's political turmoil continues.
Yesterday 10 people were killed in the capital Caracas during a looting incident after two days of protests against socialist President Nicolás Maduro.
Elvin Nimrod, Grenada's foreign affairs minister, this week offered his thoughts on the Venezuelan crisis as the countries celebrate 40 years of bilateral relations.
“Grenada stands behind you in solidarity no matter what. We understand the present challenge and we want to tell you that we believe your cause is right and just and we will stand behind you no matter what," he said.
“Grenada has benefited much from Venezuela. It is surely 40 years of productive and successful years of bilateral relationship, we appreciate it."
Listing ways that Grenada has been helped by Venezuela, Nimrod drew specific attention to the PetroCaribe agreement, whereby the Caribbean island receives cheaper oil, and a number of health-related assistance.
Speaking at a ceremony to mark the two nation's bond, Venezuela’s Foreign Minister Delcy Rodriguez thanked Grenada for its years of friendship.
