Airport authorities in Hong Kong released the official data on Sunday reporting a massive fall in passengers. Notably, passenger dropped coming by due to ongoing unrest in the country.
The airport managed just above five million travellers, down 16.2% from a year earlier, Airport Authority Hong Kong said in a declaration.
The massive drop in numbers is the result of violent civil unrest in the nation from the past several months. Demonstrators had also shut the airport following the fulfilment of their demands.
Ordinary lives remain in effect in Hong Kong even after months of the political and civil instability.
Since the demonstrations started in the month of June, it has killed around three people out which two were university students. The police capture five teenagers in association with the death of a 70-year-old who was hit by a brick during the clashes between public and police in Sheung Shui.
Thousands of people gathered to attend the funeral of Alex Chow, the twenty-one-year-old who was also killed in the protests. Chow's death was followed by the killing of another 22 years old in the country.
Hong Kong is also facing an economic disability with the massive recession of the past decade.
