Azerbaijani members of Parliament have sanctioned the proposal to dissolve Parliament and asked President Ilham Aliyev to call a snap election. The MPs of Parliament, backed the appeal on Monday, urging its dissolution by 99 votes to one, with one abstention. The governing party on Thursday initially tabled the move- followed the shock resign last month of Prime Minister Novruz Mammadov. Parliament elections are scheduled for November 2020, but the president has the right to dissolve the Parliament and call early voting. A snap election has to be held within 60 days under the terms of the constitution after a presidential decree dissolves the legislature. An early vote would help modernise Azerbaijan's legislature says, officials. And it will also speed up the economic reforms in the oil-rich country.
