Air Canada resumes flights to St Lucia after a year

The turnaround flight arrived just about 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 3rd, bringing a combined total of 129 returning nationals and visitors to the destination.

The government of St Lucia welcomed the flight, and a ceremony was held at the airport.

Deputy Prime Minister of St Lucia Dr Ernest Hilaire was joined by the Chairman of the Board at the Saint Lucia Tourism Authority (SLTA)- Mr Thaddeus Antoine, staff of the Public Relations, Sales, and Marketing Departments of the SLTA, Air Canada and the Saint Lucia Air and Sea Ports Authority (SLASPA) and President of the SLHTA- Mr Paul Collymore.

Hilaire said the weeks ahead, St Lucia destination would see an increase in service with Air Canada and the reintroduction of service with Sunwing and Westjet.

The resumption of Air Canada is likely to revive the tourism sector of St Lucia which is facing the setbacks caused by the coronavirus pandemic.

The flights had been off for over a year, due to the coronavirus. Many major airlines including the British Airways are returning back to the Caribbean countries, as the tourism season approaches.

The small businesses, local craftsmen, artisans, hotel, food vendors, restaurants, tax drivers and hundreds others associated with the sector are extremely happy with the resumption of the flights.
